Lydgate Beach

Lydgate Beach Park, which is a familly favorite, is located on the South end of Kapaa town.  In the 1970’s, Lydgate Beach was man-made as big boulders were put in place to create a semi-circle, protecting the enclosed area from crashing ocean waves.  It has a sub-division that creates a “kiddie pond”. The kiddie pond area is to the far left if you are facing the ocean and to the left of the lifeguard stand.  The “kiddie pond” has shallow water that goes up to about 4 feet deep.

Although the rocks enclose the ponds, reef fish are still able to enter.  The pond is filled with reef fish and is perfect for snorkeling as the rocks provide protection from the ocean waves.  Keiki can play in the sand fronting the ponds and explore as the small waves that roll up upon them.

Beach Safety

Remember to follow the beach safety guidelines, check surf and weather reports for current conditions, and observe posted signage.  Keep a constant watch on keiki who are playing in or around the water.  Never leave children unattended.  Small children should wear safety floatation devices unless they are avid swimmers and are being closely supervised.
